When I got my new place I ordered the cheapest internet I could get. Which is 265k. I knew that I would notice a difference coming from a dreamy 8mb. I just didn’t know how bad it would be. Oddly online gaming hasn’t been affected by the slower speed, my ping has actually gone down for some of the FPS I play, which I gotta say is just weird.
What I do notice now is poorly designed web pages with an overload of flash, non resized (web friendly) pictures and really poor navigation. Let me put it to you this way, I’m still managing to stream live content over this connection. I’m still fragging people and one of the best snipers in my clan. If your website is painfully slow to load the problem prolly isn’t on my end. I guess before I just didn’t take note, if I hit a wrong page, it was a simple back button click on the right link correction. Now it’s like 30 seconds of my life trying to get back to where I wanted.
I actually had a conversation with a web developer at my last posting regarding the website he was making for rural development. When I saw the site I knew that no one using a 56k connection would be able to actually use the site. It would just be to painful to sit there for hours on end waiting for things to load. Why would people still be using a 56k connection? Well where my parents live, a place where a site like this and it’s resources would be incredibly useful, they can only get a max connection of say 44k
