Today, I apparently tried to purchase to much. The clerk turned to me and said softly “It says you’ve exceeded your limit” I have to admit I was confused, had some unforeseen charge wiped out my account? No, it seems that my bank had arbitrarily slapped a restriction on my account for how much I was able to purchase. So I call the bank.
This is the conversation as close as I can remember it.
Me - Hi, I’m having a bit of a problem making a purchase and I just want to check to make sure everything is alright.”
Her - Ok I just have some security questions… [insert five minutes of me recounting my life in detail to ensure I’m the proper owner of the card]
Me - So, yeah I just tried to make a purchase for $x and it says I’ve passed my limit or something.
Her - You realise [pronounced drawn out like Yooooou reeeeel-alllllll-eyezzzzz] that you’ve passed your limit of daily spending.
Me - So I don’t have sufficient funds for the purchase?
Her - No, no you have more then enough. But you reeeeeel-allllll-eyezzzzz that you’ve passed you limit
Me - Oh, ok can you raise my limit then?
Her - You reeeeeeel-alllll-eyezzz that your limit is ten times what our normal customers currently have.
Me- Uh…. great? Cept I can’t make my purchase is there anything you can do like raise the limit temporarily?
Her - Yes, I can but you reeeeeell-allll-eyezzzzz that I can’t make this permanent it’s bank policy.
At this point I’m starting to lose my cool. I feel like Sam Jackson busting in on the brief case boys. “Say, reeeeel-all-eyezzz again MF, I f’ing dare you!” I finally just snap and say something to the effect
“I have the money, up my limit so I can make this purchase or come Monday I’m closing this account and moving it elsewhere”
Oddly this actually worked and I was able to go back to the store and make the purchase.
