So I’m thinking about switching to mac for schooling, since I can get a great break on a new laptop. (which I need) The other thing is that Rogers/Apple have come to some agreement to officially bring the iPhone to Canada. With this happening I figured that putting together a Powerbook and iPhone would be a good mix.

Sadly, Rogers seems to figure that because they’re the only carrier in Canada that you can use an iPhone on it’s time to rape anyone who wants one. (Fido doesn’t count they’re owned by Rogers) Right now they’ve got a few plans up on their website for new customers, not existing ones, just people they can persuade to sign up for a 3 year commitment. The plans are for a better word ridiculous.

Now I’m not really upset about this, not to the extent that other people are because I have dealt both with Apple and Rogers before. (I honestly wonder why I’m contemplating getting another Mac) Apple will NOT ship enough iPhones for the expected demand. I’m putting this in writing because it will happen, it is a standard Apple marketing play. Rogers will NOT lower their plans because they want you to use your new toy and incure one of those lovely $24K bills we’ve been seeing people receiving. (Data is expensive up here) I just want to combine a music player with a phone and have it work with new laptop seemlessly. (yes I can make it work with windows but I won’t be able to rag on Apple if it doesn’t work or at least not as much)

When all is said and done I think I’ll just get the non 3G 16gig phone. I don’t plan to surf the web with it anyway, so if it’s painfully slow who cares. On a side note I called Rogers to ask about the details of my plan, I was informed that I don’t have any text messaging on my plan. Yet I’ve been sending and receiving texts over the last couple of months. (not excessively maybe 100 texts a month) Wonder if that’s going to catch up with me at some point.
